O–Old Overland Park

This weekend the Farmers’ Market will open for the season in Old Overland Park. I love farmers’ markets, especially the ones in the old town centers. Overland Park is a large Kansas City suburb, but the old city center is small and charming. The farmers’ market reminds me of the outdoor markets in Europe. I haven’t seen donkey sausage there like I have in France, but the fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, cheeses, etc. are similar. One booth has local wine.

Here is the skinny:

Downtown O.P. Farmers Market Kicks Off Saturday

Music, Veggies, Local Delights Return Farmers market

Ah, spring is officially here. Come find the tastes, sights and sounds of the season this Saturday, April 18 during the grand opening of the Downtown Overland Park Farmers Market, 7 am to 1 pm under the big green pavilions.

For over 30 years, the market has brought together dozens of local farmers and vendors offering farm-to-table fare and homemade goodies. You can find organic and conventional vegetables, fruit, honey and meat, along with baked goods and other specialty items.

The local band, The Good Sam’s Club, will perform under The Clock Tower from 10:30 am to noon. And just in case, you need a cup of something to keep you company, locally roasted coffee and loose leaf teas will be available at your favorite local bookstore across from the market.

Wow. Even a band to create ambiance. Sounds good to me. And don’t forget to stop in at Mysteryscape bookstore across the street from the market. My books are there!
