Gardens, Like Life, are Unpredictable

I just read a quote written by master gardener Sydney Eddison in the book Gardening for a Lifetime: How to Garden Wiser As You Grow Older, that sums up the “Journey” theme of this Blog.

“I don’t know the ending. Gardens don’t have endings like novels. And, as gardeners, we don’t want them to be finished. …real life works in ways we cannot anticipate and will never understand. It continues to evolve, leaving gaps, holes, and loose ends as it unfolds.”

Even though I am not a master gardener by any means, I get it. Replace gardens with “retirement journeys” and gardeners with “retirees,” and one describes my retirement journey so far and the journeys of most of the friends and acquaintances about whom I am writing.
